The aim of the Centro de Idiomas ITSA is to make the community aware of the importance of learning and mastering a second language through promoting academic and cultural activities. This allows the academic community to know some cultural elements of countries where English, Portuguese and French are the native or official languages.

Therefore, during September, we are working around the English language and the invited country is The United States. In October, the invited country will be The United kingdom, and in November, it will be Jamaica.

 
American educational system, September 19^th

The Educational System in the United States is in many ways similar and in many ways very different than in Colombia.  In the United States, we begin in preschool and go all the way through the 12^th grade.  After this, there are many different options for university education.  In general, the university is four years long.  The university is also much more expensive than in Colombia.  Public schools cost about $17,000 and private schools are about $50,000.  Also, it is very common to live at the university in a small room called a dormitory with a complete stranger.  In the end, however, we all receive our degrees and are happy educated people.

California:  one of 50 of the great states of the United States of America.  It is home to countless actors, singers, famous celebrities.  California has a rich history dating to Native Americans and Spanish conquistadores.  The diverse geography gives way to a unique way of life from surfing, to skiing and snowboarding, to nature hiking, mountain climbing, and wine tasting.  Three of the biggest cities of the United States are located in this golden state:  San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.  The culture is very vibrant with heavy Hispanic and Asian influence.  Hollywood, Disneyland, Napa Valley, Santa Monica Beach, and countless other places are the reason that millions of people come to visit California each year.  One day, you could too!!!
